>> Technical Support
Centre Education 2000+ has been providing technical assistance to Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership (DCGEP) since 2002. The Centre ensures local implementation of the Learning Centre project and has been acting as a liaison between the schools, local school inspectorate, Ministry of Education, potential sponsors, donors, partners and DCGEP.
Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership is a nonprofit, public charity that was spearheaded by Discovery Communications, Inc. in 1997 as an effort to bring together partners from the private and public sectors in support of a unique, international, grassroots education and technology project serving populations left out of the information age. Through its Learning Centre project, DCGEP provides schools and community centres in under-resourced areas with a television, VCR, customized educational programs, and teacher training. The Learning Centre project aims to improve student learning, teacher professional development, and school-community relationships. The project is locally managed and designed to be sustainable over the long-term.
With the assistance of Centre Education 2000+, in 2003 DCGEP established six Learning Centres in Dambovita County, Romania. Each Learning Centre received a television, VCR, educational video programs customized in Romanian, and long-term training. The project trains teachers in the use of TV and video in the classroom to support educational goals. Television is used to enhance learning, share new ideas, honor traditions and stimulate a sense of community.
The Learning Centre project enables children and their communities the chance to leap across the information divide into a world of opportunity. This educational project is made possible thanks to the sponsorship of Discovery Networks Europe (DNE). Since the project’s launch, it has received support from a growing network of partners. >> Study Visits
The Centre Education 2000+ has developed a new package of consultancy services - Study and training visits in Romania. In this context, the Centre has organised study visits in May-June 2003 for representatives of the Ministries of Education from Bulgaria and Tajikistan. The Bulgarian and Tajik delegations visits happened at the recommendation of the World Bank, co-financer of the education reform programmes in the two countries. The World Bank considers the implementation models of its programmes in Romania to be a success.
